Oh Holy Night

Oh Holy Night,

I am left alone to ponder

the story of this baby

this child

who lays with me in my suffering

and carries me for eternity where angels sing

This God I am living with came one starry night

to carry the weight of my sins

I don’t understand a love like that

But I know it is real

He has lain with me in a hospital bed

carried the weight of me when I could not walk another step.

I have known his voice in the night

felt his breath on my cheek

called me by name

even in my stained sheets and broken chords and keys that played while I wept.

I am wretched

“No” he said

“You are mine.”
